This is to inform you of a planned Chemical Control Application to mitigate Eurasian Watermilfoil , an Aquatic Invasive Species that has been present in Boulder Lake since around 2012.
Eurasian Watermilfoil forms thick mats in shallow areas of the lake, quickly growing and spreadiung to block sunlight which kills off native aquatic plants that fish rely on for food and sheter. In North America, the plant threatens the ecological balance of lakes, which in turn adversely affects recreational opportunities. If left unchecked, this invasive watermilfoil will continue to spread throughout the lake.
A committee of volunteers has been monitoring the watermilfoil since the last treatment in 2021, including two hand pulls. The committee has determined that a chemical treatment is needed, and has contracted with Schmidt’s Aquatic, LLC for this process. A portion of the costs will be covered by the Oconto County Healthy Waters grant.
This treatment is tenatively scheduled for the week of June 12th, weather dependent.
The chemical used has a trade name of ProcellaCOR™ and has been used in the lake previously. There are no drinking water, recreational, swimming or fishing restrictions nor any effect to fish or wildlife. The chemical is designed to specifically mitigate the invasive milfoil by treatment to the roots, with a short exposure time needed. This will be conducted via boat with manifold treatment.
Enclosed as part of this required notice is the permit application and fact sheet for the chemical treatment.
No action is required, but if you do have questions, please reach out to myself or Stuart Armstrong, Association President.
Dated this 31st day of May, 2023
