BOATING ON BOULDER LAKE

Boulder Lake is shared by many types of boats and boaters!. From powerboats to kayaks, pontoons to stand-up paddleboards, let's all share the lake safely and responsibly.

Boating Regulations are enforced by the DNR, Counties and Townships.

WAKE HOURS:  Wake hours/water-skiing hours are from 10AM-5PM daily.  All other time periods are Slow-No Wake.  Slow-No Wake means operating at the slowest speed that enables steerage and navigation.   Slow-No Wake hours are enforced under Town of Doty Ordinance #3.05.  Wake and no-wake hours help everyone enjoy the lake in different ways at different times.

COUNTER-CLOCKWISE OPERATION:  To assist in safe operation, boats on Boulder Lake should generally operate in a counter-clockwise fashion around the lake.

WEST NO WAKE AREAS:  The west side of the lake  (either side and including Traxel Point) is a slow-no wake area and is marked by a mostly north/south bouy line.  In addition to multiple submerged rocks/boulders, our nesting loons have a habitat in this area.  Please operate at minimum speed in this protected area.

SPEAKING OF THE LOONS:  We've been fortunate over the last several years to have loons nesting on the lake.  Please be aware they can be on any portion of the lake at anytime, please keep an eye out for them as you boat.  Listen for their great call and responses, especially in the early morning or evening.  It's a true song of the north!

ROCKS/BOULDERS:  Hence the name, Boulder Lake has many rocks/boulders in various areas of the lake.  While two near-surface boulders are marked with bouys (center and southeast side of the lake) numerous other boulders are above surface/unmarked or just below the surface.  Use caution in all areas of the lake, and don't be afraid to ask other lake users if you are unfamiliar with navigating the lake.

STOP AQUATIC HITCHHIKERS:  We participate in "Clean Boats, Clean Waters" to help curb the spread of invasive species in Boulder Lake

Follow these steps to prevent the establishment and spread of invasives:

  • Inspect your boat, trailer and equipment
  • Remove all attached plants or animals
  • Drain all water from boats, motors, livewells and other equipment
  • Never move live fish away from a waterbody
  • Dispose of unwanted bait in the trash
  • Buy minnows from a Wisconsin bait dealer, and use leftover minnows only if you will be using them on that same waterbody or if no lake or river water or other fish were added to the container.
