AQUATIC INVASIVE SPECIES CONTROL

Eurasian Water Milfoil was first discovered on Boulder Lake in 2012, with a treatment plan developed and completed that same year.  From 2012-2017 spot hand harvesting of this invasive weed took place. A new survey was completed in 2018 that led to a recommendations of hand harvesting followed by another chemical treatment. Due to delays due to COVID-19, treatment was done in 2021 in spot sections on the lake.

In 2022, recognizing the need to stay in front of this growing threat, an AIS Committee was formed from volunteer members of BLPHA.  The Committee will work with our various state and county resources to continue to work on a long-term plan for management of this and other Aquatic Invasive Species on Boulder Lake.

The pictures below ARE NOT from Boulder Lake. They are pictures from 2018 from Lake Iola, near Iola, WI.  Lake Iola is a 220 acre lake with a maximum depth of 9 feet.  They have been addressing EWM for several years.  The picture of the lake is shown AFTER machine harvesting and AFTER chemical treatment was done.  This is the serious effect that, left unchecked, Eurasian Watermilfoil can have on a lake.  Imagine this on Boulder Lake!...please take steps to get involved and support our effort to make sure EWM remains controlled on Boulder Lake.
